01SEVEN OPEN COLUMNS
Deal five cards to each.
Shuffle one ordinary pack without jokers. Deal seven columns of five face-up overlapping cards, so all ranks can be read. Turn the next card face up to begin the waste, leaving sixteen cards in stock.
Only the exposed end card of each column is playable. Cards above it can be seen, but stay blocked until the cards below them have been removed.
02ONE ADJACENT RANK
Go up or down, any suit.
Play an exposed tableau card if its rank is exactly one above or below the waste top. A six can take a five or seven of any suit; the card you play becomes the next waste top.
Equal ranks do not match. At this table a queen can take a king and a king can take a queen. An ace can connect only to a two, not a king. There is no suit or colour requirement.
03REMOVE, DO NOT REARRANGE
An empty column stays empty.
Do not move cards from one tableau column to another, fill an empty space or pick a buried card. Removing the end card simply exposes the next card in that column.
Compare the next exposed ranks before choosing between two legal plays. The shortest immediate play is not always the most useful route through the remaining columns.
04SIXTEEN DRAWS
One pass through the stock.
Draw one stock card onto the waste whenever you choose. It becomes the new card to build on, covering the old waste top. Drawing is allowed even if another tableau play exists.
Once stock is exhausted, it cannot be recycled. You may still play adjacent exposed cards. If cards remain and no adjacent play exists, the deal is blocked; Undo or Restart deal can explore another route.
05CLEAR THE TABLEAU
One deal, complete practice.
Win by removing all thirty-five tableau cards. Unused stock cards do not prevent a win. The live counter shows cards left rather than a cumulative match score.
Traditional multi-hole scoring can count remaining tableau cards across agreed deals, but this practice table plays one complete deal without storing a nine-hole score. Random deals are not guaranteed solvable.
06AGREE ON KINGS
Know which Golf you mean.
Some Golf Solitaire rules stop all building on a king; other versions permit ace–king wrapping. Our version permits queen–king moves and forbids ace–king wrapping. These conventions are demonstrated in lessons two and four.
